After four years of being signed to Lil’ Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment label, fellow New Orleans rapper Curren$y has officially declared his independence from the company.

In a recent MySpace blog titled “Sorry Y’all I Tried…Honest,” Curren$y states “I am not Young Money.” So as Lil’ Wayne the artist reaches an all time high, his label is losing one of its most promising artists. SOHH caught up with New Orleans underground hero, Curren$y, about his decision to part ways with Young Money.

“Nothing happened and that’s why I had to bounce,” Curren$y told SOHH exclusively. “I been there for what? Four years, man, and nothing ever came of it.”

A veteran of the New Orleans’ rap scene who has shined on Weezy’s “Lil Weezyana” and “Dedication 2″ mixtapes, Curren$y likened his long wait for an album release date to a previous stint on No Limit.

“It’s just like my No Limit deal that was with Master P,” Curren$y said. “Four years, I feel like, by now, where is the album? I don’t believe it. Nobody believes that anymore. ‘The album dropping — the album dropping,’ I got tired of telling people that. I got a sh-tload of music and I can actually rap and the only thing anybody ever heard from me was “Where Da Cash At?” That was a cool song but what was after that? Wasn’t nothing happening, I can’t sit still. I gotta go and do what I gotta do.”

While Curren$y revealed it’s been months since he’s even spoken to Lil’ Wayne, “We wasn’t even talking — we haven’t even been talking,” he also says he doesn’t have any hard feelings towards his former boss.

“It ain’t no problem, it ain’t like I got some big thing against dude, I just have something with me not being done right,” Curren$y explained to SOHH. “I’m not on no other sh-t. We from the same city, so it ain’t nothing like that. I would like to see a @#*$% get it, but I would like for @#*$%s to see me get it as well… I got a cult following — hardcore fans that know what I can do. They want to see me in a different position, they want me on TV and I want it for them.”

At the present moment Curren$y is focused on being heard. A DJ Smallz-hosted mixtape, “Independence Day” is due out later this month and Curren$y says he’s already completed his long-awaited album Music 2 Fly 2 as well as a special edition Music 2 Fly 2: The Director’s Cut. Once he is completely clear of his situation at Young Money, Curren$y is looking to find a new home for his music and his Fly Society label.

“I would rather have my own situation, that’s why I started my label Fly Society,” Curren$y said. “As long as I’m in control of my situation I don’t care who it’s with.”
